30 Day Health Challenge – Day 22

Yesterday, we explored what spirituality means to us. Today, I want to explore a specific spiritual practice that is common to most religions and 12 step recovery programs: mindfulness.

Mindfulness is being aware of your feelings and actions throughout the day. Mindfulness is being fully present in the current moment, accepting your feelings, thoughts, and sensations without judgement.

So many of us feel rushed and stressed throughout our day, and don’t take the time to be fully present to what’s going on here and now. We’re too busy worrying about what happened in the past or about what’s going to happen in the future, and we miss out on the joy of being fully present. Mindfulness is the cure.

There are a lot of ways to become more mindful (yoga, meditation, prayer, breathing exercises), but today, I’m going to challenge you to do a simple exercise you can do pretty much anywhere or anytime.

Take out a pen and a journal or notebook. Silence your phone. Take a deep breath. Write down everything you see, feel, hear, think, or experience for five minutes.

Now, read over what you wrote. Does anything surprise you?

Happy Eating!
